This weekend, I got to go on a portion of my daughter’s 21 Run (a portion, as parents have to skedaddle before too long so the youngin’s can get their swerve on).
As we were hopping from bar to bar, I realized that this is a well-worn tradition that really hasn’t changed much over the years. I would say that it’s a kinder, more friendly 21 Run now than when I did mine, but the basics are all still intact.
I got to plan out a rough map of bars in downtown Seattle that I have either been to, or wanted to go to, and we started from there. By 5 pm, we left the kids on their won to go explore and have fun (thank you Uber).
It was incredibly fun; no pressure to drink, just great friends and good cocktails, along a path of about 1.5 miles and a dozen or so local bars. Super fun, and really pretty low key.
I did get to explore a few places that I always wanted to go to but hadn’t been before, chief among them Sonya’s in Seattle. If you haven’t been there, I’d encourage you to go. Nice, friendly bar with good cocktails and a spectacular view of the Sound on a nice day.
All in all, a great day…but I’m getting older, and so are my daughters, which always leaves me a tad melancholy thinking about 🙂
