Kentucky's Whole Personality Is a Barrel
There is a particular kind of autumn weekend that wants nothing from you but bourbon and a designated driver — this is the post for planning that one.
The Bourbon Trail is a grand experiment...if you have never done it, grab some friends and do it!
Next to a regular vacation, the Bourbon Trail is what happens when a road trip and a tasting flight fall in love and refuse to apologize for it. Other states have coastlines or mountains to fall back on. Kentucky looked at that competition and decided its whole personality would be a barrel of charred oak and time.
I have made the drive, and I will say this: it is one thing to know intellectually that bourbon has to be made in the United States to bear the name, and another thing entirely to stand in a rickhouse and feel several million dollars of aging whiskey breathing on you like weather. The state does not undersell it. There is no reason to.
If you have never gone, gather people you like being trapped in a car with, because you will need them by the fourth distillery. Grab some friends and do it. Just designate a driver with real conviction — this is not a trail that forgives improvisation.
Cheers, Steve

New drinks, sometimes.
No schedule, no spam, no “hey friend” opener. Just what I’ve been drinking, when there’s something worth sending.
