Autumn Punch

punchbourbon

Bourbon and a great deal of apple cider, made in a bowl because mixing these one at a time is how a host misses their own party. Give it the full chill, four hours at minimum, or the cinnamon and cloves never actually turn up. Works warm, which is the entire point in November.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml)BSB - Brown Sugar Bourbon
  • 64 ozunfiltered apple cider
  • 16 ozfresh orange juice
  • 4 ozfresh lemon juice
  • 2 stickscinnamon
  • 6 wholecloves
  • 1apple — sliced
  • 1orange — sliced

Method

In a punch bowl or crock pot, combine all ingredients. Chill for 4-6 hours, or simmer in a crock pot. Serve cold or warm.

Steve’s notes

If you wanted to make just a single drink, I'd tweak it slightly to: 2 oz bourbon + 4 oz cider + 1 oz orange + 1/4 oz lemon (apple slice for garnish). Add the apple cider, cinnamon stick, and clove to a small saucepan. Warm gently for about 5 minutes, without boiling. This gives the cider the spice character that would normally develop in the large punch. Remove from heat and discard the clove. Let the cider cool if you're serving the drink cold. Then just add everything to a shaker with ice, give it a short shake, and serve in a rocks glass.
