Black Manhattan

manhattan · rye

Purists will tell you that amaro instead of vermouth makes this something other than a Manhattan, and they're right, which hasn't slowed me down. Keep it two to one — the Averna is sweetening and bittering at once, so anything extra just turns it sticky. Nothing in it goes bad in the fridge door, which vermouth never managed.
