Ingredients: 2 oz rye whiskey; ½ oz Punt e Mes Sweet Vermouth; ¼ oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur; Cocktail cherry (optional)

Late in an evening when a Manhattan reads too sweet and you want something drier to end on. Punt e Mes carries a bitterness plain sweet vermouth won't, and the maraschino is seasoning rather than sweetener — pour it heavy and you've made cough syrup. The cherry is optional; I never manage to skip it.

Ingredients

2 ozrye whiskey
½ ozPunt e Mes Sweet Vermouth
¼ ozLuxardo Maraschino Liqueur

Garnish

Cocktail cherry (optional)

Method

Stir on ice for 15 seconds (if small ice) to 30 seconds (if large ice). Strain off ice into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a cocktail cherry or nothing at all.
