Coffee Old Fashioned

old-fashioned · rye · bourbon

The coffee liqueur sweetens as much as it flavors, so cut the syrup to a quarter ounce or you've built a dessert. Coffee bitters pull it back toward whiskey and away from tiramisu. It works at nine in the morning and nine at night, which is the problem.

Ingredients

Where there's a range: the low end is lighter, the high end is fuller.

  • orange peel or coffee beansgarnish

Twist of orange peel or a few coffee beans

Method

Muddle an orange slice or cherry if you want a more Old Fashioned flavor. In a highball glass, add ice and build the drink in the glass; combine the bourbon or rye, coffee liqueur, simple syrup, and bitters. Garnish with a twist of orange peel or a few coffee beans for an aromatic touch, and enjoy!
