OLD old Fashioned (circa 1870's) - the Sazerac
old-fashioned · rye
The ancestor, from back when improving a cocktail meant adding four more things to it and hoping. The absinthe and the maraschino both go in by the dash, because a heavy hand turns the whole thing into a liquorice accident. Rye, a big cube, and a century and a half of second-guessing.
