Call it a Boulevardier with chocolate bitters and you're mostly right. Campari nearly matches the vermouth here, so pour a bourbon with real proof behind it or the whiskey simply vanishes under the bitterness. Those cherries aren't decoration so much as a concession.

Ingredients

Where there's a range: the low end is lighter, the high end is fuller.

• 1½ ozBourbon
• 1 ozSweet vermouth
• 1 ozCampari
• 1–2 dashesChocolate bitters

Garnish

2 maraschino cherries or orange peel

Method

Add bourbon, Campari, vermouth, and bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until chilled and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with maraschino cherries or orange peel.
