Ingredients: 2 oz Bourbon — bourbon with lifted citrus notes, such as Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight, will add to the complexity of the cocktail; Knob Creek is also tasty; ¼ Lemon — muddled; 1 oz Simple syrup; Mint (ingredient list also notes 1/2 orange wheel and a maraschino cherry)

Call it a julep with a lemon problem and you're not wrong. Muddle the wedge peel and all, since the oil off the rind does more work here than the juice, but press the mint gently or you've made grass clippings. Everywhere else it forgives a heavy hand.

Garnish

Method

Combine all ingredients in shaker. Pour contents of shaker into chilled rocks glass. Garnish with mint and enjoy.
