Whiskey Sour

sour · bourbon

Next to a Daiquiri, it's the same drink with a Kentucky accent. Half an egg white adds nothing to the flavor — it's there to blunt the acid and bind everything together, so skip it if you like your citrus sharp. The one I make when I've stopped trying to impress anyone.

Ingredients

  • 2 ozBourbonbourbon with lifted citrus notes, such as Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight, will add to the complexity of the cocktail; Knob Creek is also tasty
  • ¾ ozLemon juice
  • ¾ ozSimple syrup

Garnish

1/2 orange wheel and a maraschino cherry

Method

Add bourbon, lemon, and syrup into shaker w/ice and shake. Pour into a highball glass filled with ice. Add garnishes. Enjoy!

Steve’s notes

Options: lemon instead of orange wheel for a garnish. Also 1/2 of an egg white (include with the ingredients to shake). The egg actually serves no role in the flavour of the Whiskey Sour. Instead, it is used to reduce the acidity from the citrus and bind the flavors together.
