Backyard, late afternoon, someone still arguing with the grill. Use unsweetened tea — the rich syrup and the muddled strawberries have the sugar handled already, and sweet tea takes the whole thing to jam. It tastes like a soft drink, which is a fact and not a compliment.

Ingredients

2 ozbourbon
2 largefresh strawberries — sliced into quarters
1 ozfresh lemon juice
¾ ozrich simple syrup — 2 parts sugar, 1 part water
—unsweetened iced tea — to top

Garnish

mint sprig, and skewered blueberries and strawberries

Method

Add the strawberries and lemon juice into a shaker and gently muddle. Add the bourbon and simple syrup, add ice, and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a Collins glass over fresh ice. Top with unsweetened iced tea. Garnish with a mint sprig and skewered blueberries and strawberries.
