Mint Julep
Sits next to the bourbon smash, minus the fruit, with the mint promoted. Press the leaves rather than shredding them, and treat the crushed ice as dilution instead of decoration — it's doing half the work. How much mint you use is a personality test, and mine has gotten worse.
Ingredients
- 2 ozbourbon
- ½ ozsimple syrup
- to tastemint leaves — roughly 2 leaves to 2 handfuls, up to personal preference

Method
Muddle mint in your shaker. Add ice, simple syrup, and bourbon. Shake. Add crushed ice to the cup. Double strain cocktail over crushed ice. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.
