Gin Gimlet
sour · gin
Pale, cold, and sharp enough to make you sit up. Match the lime and the syrup to each other so the gin stays in charge — let either one drift and you've made limeade with a grudge. Basil in the shaker turns it into something you'll claim you invented.
Ingredients
Where there's a range: the low end is lighter, the high end is fuller.
- 2 ozgin
- ½–¾ ozsimple syrup
- ½–¾ ozfreshly squeezed lime juice
Garnish
lime; optional fresh basil leaves
Method
In a shaker, combine ingredients with ice and shake. Garnish with lime; add fresh basil leaves to the shaker and shake for something special.
Steve’s notes
Substitute coconut vodka for gin for a Tracy Gimlet. Add a dash of pearl dust to the bottom of a martini glass and some black food coloring to the shaker for a Black Magic.
