Bourbon with grenadine sounds like a Shirley Temple that got into trouble, and the objection holds right up until you taste it. The dry vermouth isn't decorative — it thins the bourbon out so the grenadine has to share. Homemade grenadine, if you've got it, keeps this well clear of candy territory.

Ingredients

Where there's a range: the low end is lighter, the high end is fuller.

• 1½–2 ozbourbon
• ½ ozdry vermouth
• ¾ ozfresh lime juice — or lemon juice
• ½ ozgrenadine — can use homemade recipe (pomegranate juice and sugar) for a less sweet cherry taste
• 2 dashesorange bitters

Fresh citrus wheel

Method

Add all ingredients into shaker with ice. Shake and pour into a chilled cocktail glass; garnish with a fresh citrus wheel. Enjoy!
